Exploring Gender and Inclusion Challenges in AI4D: Insights from AfricAI Conference

Dr Ernest Mwebaze and Wisdom Ceaser Favor conducted a session, an interactive workshop at the AfricAI conference on June 12th, 2023. Their session delved into the pressing Gender and Inclusion challenges within the realm of AI for Development (AI4D), offering valuable insights and fostering collaborative learning among participants, including members of the AI4D program. Dr Mwebaze is a Co-Principal Investigator in AI4D’s Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network (GRAIN). Mr Wisdom Ceaser Favor is the lead of the Gender Equity and Inclusion club in the HASH Network.

The workshop provided a platform for attendees to engage in dialogue and exchange experiences regarding ongoing AI initiatives across the continent. Dr. Mwebaze highlighted the importance of incorporating Gender, Equity, and Inclusion (GEI) considerations into AI projects to ensure their relevance and effectiveness in diverse contexts.
